ZEIBEK
Zeibek is an Aegean dance. It is performed by a single person or by several people lined up in a circle. Zeibek respresents a brave man protecting the public. The dancer performing Zeibek spreads his arms at shoulder level and moves slowly by taking big steps. Leaning and touching one knee to the ground at times is one of its characteristic acts.
Regions where Zeibek is performed are Izmir, Aydın, Antalya, Balıkesir, Manisa, Kütahya, Çanakkale, Muğla and Denizli. When “Beat the Zeibek!” is said to the drummer, he understands that the dance music related to Zeibek is demanded and beats the leading zeibek music in the circle. The rhythm is definitely nine-beat. This feature is like a signature and compatible with the number nine that ancient Turks considered as lucky. It should not be forgotten that signs of Zeibeks and Zeibek dance can be found where Zeibek is known and Zeibeks has reached, and thus, you should not give up seeking for them.
